The château Le Retail was a seigneurie as far back as the twelfth century - the first recorded seigneur Guillaume du Retail took over the reins in 1341

Over the following centuries the seigneurs expanded both the château and it's lands making it one of the foremost places in the area, attracting visits from local and foreign nobility, including royalty.
